There are a few different ways to pay the filing fee for the 2290. You can pay by debit or credit card when you submit the 2290, set up prepay in the account, or pay for the annual subscription. We are going to focus on the annual subscription.
Who should sign up for the annual subscription?
If you are an individual or paid tax professional that has multiple businesses or individuals that you file the 2290 form for, you may want to use this service. It allows you to pay a one-time fee of $199 for multiple filings under a single EIN, during the tax season. If you or your client buys or sells vehicles different times throughout the tax year, this would be for you and could end up saving you a lot of money.
How do you sign up for the Annual Subscription?
When you submit your first 2290 for the season, you will be asked to select a package offer. You will see 3 options listed on the page. The second option will be for the annual subscription. The option reads as follows: Unlimited 2290 filing for the current taxable year-$199.00. Unlimited tax filing of form 2290 for the entire season, for a single business/single EIN. Once you select this option you will be shown the amount due. You will fill in the credit card information boxes to pay the fee and then click Confirm. This will cover you for that tax year, for a single EIN.
Can I file multiple EINs under this annual subscription?
No. The annual subscription is for a single EIN only. If you have another business/EIN that you plan to file a lot of 2290’s for, you will need to purchase an annual subscription for that EIN as well.
What does the annual subscription cover?
The annual subscription covers all 2290’s filed under a single EIN during the tax year. This can be the regular 2290 or the Amended 2290. It does not however cover the 8849-Claim for refund. This form is separate from the 2290’s.
When do I need to renew?
The annual subscription will need to be renewed July 1st of each year, as the tax year ends on June 30th. The annual subscription is only good during that specific tax year. That means after June 30th of the tax year, you will no longer be covered under the ‘annual subscription’. So, let’s say you paid the annual subscription for the July 2016-June 2017 tax year, which expires June 30, 2017. If you file a 2290 for the 2016-2017 tax year on July 1, 2017 or after, you will be required to pay our filing fee for that submission as the July 2016-June 2017 tax year has already passed and your subscription has expired for that year.
